12 Brands Featured in “Top Rehab Facilities Los Angeles California” Lists

Lists of top rehab facilities in Los Angeles tend to repeat the same names without explaining the terms behind them, so this guide walks through 12 of those brands in plain language: what detox, residential care, PHP and IOP mean at each one, who each program is built for, and how it is paid for.

#1 Bright Paths Recovery

Best for: Couples who want to go through treatment together

When both partners need treatment, separate programs can leave a couple apart during the hardest weeks of recovery. Bright Paths Recovery runs a couples program where partners are treated together in the same residential setting, while each person keeps an individual treatment plan. That way, shared work happens side by side without one partner's needs crowding out the other's.

The setting is a private 12-bed home in Northridge, in the San Fernando Valley. Detox, the medically supervised period when the body clears alcohol or drugs, happens in that same home with 24/7 clinical care. Once detox ends, clients move straight into residential treatment, meaning they live on site and attend therapy every day, usually for 28 to 40 days. According to the company, there are about three team members for each pair of clients.

Some people also live with mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression or PTSD. Treating these alongside addiction is called dual diagnosis care, and Bright Paths offers it while keeping substance use as the primary focus. Therapy draws on CBT, which works on unhelpful thinking patterns, DBT, which builds skills for handling strong emotions, and motivational interviewing. Family therapy takes place on site once or twice a week.

Getting started is simple. A free, confidential insurance check comes first, most PPO plans and out-of-network benefits are accepted, and admission is often possible the same day.

Verdict: The clearest choice here for couples seeking detox and residential care together. Keep in mind that Bright Paths does not accept Medicaid or Medicare and offers no outpatient level, so step-down care comes through partner programs.

#2 CRI-Help

Best for: Adults in the Valley who rely on Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal is California's version of Medicaid, the public health coverage for people with lower incomes. CRI-Help, a North Hollywood nonprofit, takes Medi-Cal, and directories say it also works with commercial insurance, payment plans and fees that shrink with income, known as a sliding scale.

Its home base on Burbank Boulevard is named the George T. Pfleger Center, and a second house, Socorro, offers residential beds in the city of Los Angeles. A stay there typically begins with detox. Directory listings say medication is used to manage withdrawal for people with moderate or severe symptoms.

Next comes the residential phase, where every day includes a 12-step meeting. Yoga and a case manager, the staff member who helps with practical needs such as housing or benefits, are part of the routine too. When residential care ends, people can continue in day treatment or outpatient groups, and alumni can move into sober living.

Verdict: A long-standing option, going back to 1971, for people whose coverage points them toward public programs. CARF, an independent accrediting body, is listed as its accreditor.

#3 Wish Recovery

Best for: Professionals who want outpatient care at the same program

Rehab usually comes in levels. After residential care, many people move to a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which means full days of treatment while sleeping at home or in sober living, and then to an intensive outpatient program (IOP), with fewer hours each week. Wish Recovery says all of these steps, plus detox, happen at its Northridge property.

That property is a private estate in the same ZIP code as Bright Paths. Its newest offering is a program for people in high-pressure careers, such as lawyers, doctors and company founders.

Equine therapy, which uses time with horses as part of treatment, shows up in its Psychology Today profile together with outdoor therapy and care for co-occurring conditions. Amenities described online include a movie theatre and private suites.

NAATP, a national association of addiction treatment providers, lists Wish as a member. A family that went through addiction themselves started the program, the company says.

Verdict: A good match for someone who wants to stay with one team from detox through outpatient care. Detox.com reports that The Joint Commission accredits it.

#4 Clearview

Best for: Adults with serious mental health conditions alongside addiction

Some people come to rehab with serious mental health conditions that need as much attention as the addiction itself. Clearview, in Venice, was designed for them, accepting adults who live with conditions like schizophrenia, dissociative disorders or thoughts of self-harm.

The core method is DBT. Clearview adds ACT, which stands for acceptance and commitment therapy, and Seeking Safety, an approach that works on trauma and substance use at the same time. Residents stay in houses a short distance from the Venice treatment buildings and go out to community 12-step meetings.

Once the residential phase ends, step-down options include PHP and IOP. For coverage, Health Net/MHN and Kaiser are two of its in-network plans, and veterans may be able to use VA Community Care benefits there.

Meals can follow kosher, vegan or gluten-free diets. Clearview belongs to Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare and carries LegitScript approval.

Verdict: Built for complex co-occurring conditions. Detox is absent from its addiction program page, and it does not take Medicare, Medicaid or Blue Shield of California.

#5 CLARE│MATRIX

Best for: Westside residents using public coverage

Two older organizations, the CLARE Foundation and the Matrix Institute on Addictions, joined in 2018 to form CLARE│MATRIX, a Santa Monica nonprofit. People who stay overnight do so at its Pico Campus, and outpatient offices extend to Mid-City and Ontario.

Withdrawal care is available at any hour, according to directories, and men and women live in separate residential units for stays of 30 to 90 days. When it helps, doctors on site can prescribe MAT, short for medications for addiction treatment, which can ease cravings and withdrawal.

The Matrix Model, the second half of the name, is a structured outpatient method. The organization runs its own outpatient groups this way and teaches the model to clinicians elsewhere.

Group options listed online include support for older adults, veterans and LGBTQ+ clients, and some outpatient sessions can happen by video.

Verdict: Its Cope Compass listing covers Medicare, Medicaid, commercial plans, paying directly and income-based fees, so many people can find a way to pay. CARF accreditation is listed too.

#6 Tarzana Treatment Centers

Best for: People who need many services within one system

Tarzana Treatment Centers began as a nonprofit in 1972 and now runs sites around LA County, from Woodland Hills down to Long Beach. Addiction care is only one part of what it does.

Inside the same organization, a person can go through detox, take medication for addiction, live in a residential program and later step down to PHP, IOP or regular outpatient visits. There are residential programs for teenagers and for mothers who bring their children. If a mental health crisis comes up, the system has its own psychiatric hospital.

Paying for care is often the biggest worry. Tarzana says residential detox is covered under Drug Medi-Cal and My Health LA, a county program, and it publishes a policy on charity care.

People whose treatment is linked to a court case can join its drug court or diversion programs, and the clinics also provide everyday medical and dental care.

Verdict: Wide scope and public coverage, delivered by a large organization rather than a small home. Accredited by The Joint Commission.

#7 La Fuente Hollywood

Best for: LGBTQ+ adults who want an affirming setting

La Fuente has focused on LGBTQ+ people since 2005, according to one Southern California directory, and the Hollywood program is intimate in size, with 15 beds according to Rehab.com.

The process starts with detox under medical management, then moves into residential treatment that StartYourRecovery says usually runs between 30 and 90 days. Later steps include PHP, IOP and outpatient care, with family and alumni groups along the way.

Sober living, also called transitional living, is a shared home where people in early recovery live with house rules and peer support while returning to work or school. La Fuente offers it as a next step after residential care.

Verdict: A small, focused program with a full set of levels. CARF first accredited it in 2014, and Rehab.com names Anthem among accepted plans.

#8 Beit T'Shuvah

Best for: Adults who want long-term structure with a spiritual foundation

Beit T'Shuvah treats addiction through three lenses at once: Jewish tradition, the 12 steps and professional therapy. Residents live together in West Los Angeles for an extended stay, and each day includes several groups, Torah study and, each week, Shabbat services.

It started small, with eight men in a Downtown halfway house, and now runs its own bakery, thrift store and studios where residents gain job skills. Gambling problems are handled in a separate program called Right Action.

Expect firm boundaries. New residents give up phones for at least two months and cannot use computers, and English is required. Because there is no medical detox on site, anyone in withdrawal needs to finish detox first.

Verdict: Best suited to people seeking a structured, faith-integrated community. It works with Drug Medi-Cal and offers scholarships.

#9 Luxe Recovery

Best for: Adults who want a very small private home

Luxe Recovery keeps groups tiny, six people per house according to StartYourRecovery, and the same source puts staffing at about three employees for each client. One house is in Los Feliz, the other in the Hollywood Hills near Studio City.

Withdrawal happens in the house, watched over by nurses day and night, and residential care follows without a move. Psychology Today lists EMDR and neurofeedback among the therapies on offer.

Home comforts include a pool and a gym, and pets may be allowed under the company's policies.

A LuxuryRehabs listing reports a California DHCS license, the state's official permission to run a treatment program, and Joint Commission accreditation.

Verdict: A small private setting for people with PPO coverage or private pay. Medicaid, Medicare and state-funded plans are not accepted.

#10 Breathe Life

Best for: Adults working through trauma alongside substance use

Trauma and addiction often travel together, and Breathe Life Healing Centers in Laurel Canyon treats both at once, including PTSD. It is also known for LGBTQ+ care and chemsex treatment, which addresses drug use connected to sex.

Levels of care on its website begin with detox and continue through residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient programs, with transitional housing available after that. Relatives can take a family class or a longer workshop, and graduates stay in touch through online alumni meetings each week.

Brad Lamm, an author and interventionist, founded the program, and Beck Gee, AMFT, is its CEO. It is accredited by The Joint Commission with a Gold Seal.

Medication-assisted treatment is offered, and flight attendants have a program designed around their schedules and work.

Verdict: A trauma-focused program with a full continuum. Ask whether detox happens on the Laurel Canyon campus itself.

#11 Hazelden Betty Ford

Best for: Families who want extensive family programming

Betty Ford helped found the center in 1982. Today it belongs to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, a national nonprofit, and its California campus is in Rancho Mirage, roughly a two-hour trip from Los Angeles.

On campus, medical staff handle detox, and inpatient treatment includes support at any hour. People can also choose outpatient or online care, and there is a specific program for opioid use disorder.

Families are a big part of the model. Workshops for relatives, a program for children, and family sessions in Spanish and for Native American families are all offered.

Know the house rules before arriving: phones stay in bedrooms, and visits happen on Sunday afternoons. Financial aid is available, and the first assessment is free.

Verdict: A destination option for families ready to travel. Only ADA service dogs are allowed, and the campus holds Joint Commission accreditation.

#12 Hoag

Best for: People who need detox in a hospital setting

Hoag runs its addiction program within a full hospital system in Orange County, with services in Newport Beach and Irvine. That means detox takes place in an acute-care hospital setting, with doctors and nurses present around the clock.

For residential treatment, Hoag uses SolMar Recovery, a 21-bed unit on the hospital grounds. Specific tracks serve young adults, working professionals and people managing chronic pain, and families can attend a program that runs for a week.

Mental health conditions such as OCD, depression and bipolar disorder are treated alongside addiction. Graduates can join Hoag's Heroes, the alumni group.

Verdict: Suited to medically complex detox for families comfortable with Orange County and a hospital environment. Free, confidential assessments are available seven days a week.

Getting Ready for Your First Day

Most admissions start with a phone call. The admissions team asks about substance use, health history and insurance, and many programs, including Bright Paths Recovery, run a free benefits check during or right after that call.

Next comes an assessment. Some programs use ASAM criteria, a widely used framework for matching a person to the right level of care, which tells the team whether detox is needed before residential treatment begins. Have a list of current medications and any diagnoses ready, since the medical team will review them.

Then sort out the practical details. Ask what to bring and what stays home, because rules differ: Bright Paths allows phones and laptops, while Beit T'Shuvah does not permit phones for at least the first 60 days. If you have a pet or a partner who also needs treatment, ask directly, as only some programs accommodate either.

Finally, arrange travel and time away. Some programs help with transport, and Bright Paths can arrange travel that includes airport pickup. Telling work and family early makes the first week calmer, and asking how family members can take part, through visits or family therapy, helps everyone know what to expect.
